Serial device matching
Device doesn’t appear
Section titled “Device doesn’t appear”- Check the cable and port — many issues are just a charge-only USB cable.
- Some USB serial adapters need a driver on macOS; verify the adapter shows up in System Information → USB.
- Unplug and replug, then reopen the device picker.
Session resumes with the wrong device
Section titled “Session resumes with the wrong device”When a serial session auto-resumes, it matches on the device’s identity as reported over USB. Two identical adapters can look alike to the system. If the wrong one is picked up:
- Prefer plugging identical adapters into consistent ports.
- Or close the session and open the correct device explicitly.
Garbled output
Section titled “Garbled output”Mismatched baud rate is the usual cause — check the device’s documentation (115200 is a common default) and match the session settings.
