Serial device matching

  1. Check the cable and port — many issues are just a charge-only USB cable.
  2. Some USB serial adapters need a driver on macOS; verify the adapter shows up in System Information → USB.
  3. Unplug and replug, then reopen the device picker.

When a serial session auto-resumes, it matches on the device’s identity as reported over USB. Two identical adapters can look alike to the system. If the wrong one is picked up:

  • Prefer plugging identical adapters into consistent ports.
  • Or close the session and open the correct device explicitly.

Mismatched baud rate is the usual cause — check the device’s documentation (115200 is a common default) and match the session settings.
