Import and manage keys

Two kinds of keys

The key library holds two kinds of SSH key:

• Regular keys — an ordinary private key, imported or generated, stored in Keychain.
• Security keys (FIDO) — the private half lives in a hardware token and never exists in software. Created inside the app, not imported.

Everything below is about regular keys.

Importing a key

Import an existing private key into SigilTTY’s key library. If the key has a passphrase, you can store it alongside the key — both are kept in the system Keychain, never in plain text.

Using keys in profiles

Any profile can reference a key from the library. One key can serve many profiles; renaming or updating it in the library applies everywhere.

Protecting keys

• Require Touch ID / Face ID / passcode before each use — see Biometric protection.
• Move a key to another of your devices without exporting a file — see Key Handoff.

Sync behavior

Regular keys can sync through iCloud Keychain if you enable credential sync. Biometric-protected keys never sync — they stay on the device they were imported on. See iCloud sync for the full picture.
