Password and key authentication

Enter the password when connecting, or save it with the profile. Saved passwords are stored in the system Keychain — never in plain text in the app’s database.

Choose a private key from your key library when setting up a profile. To add keys, see Import and manage keys.

Keys can additionally be protected with Touch ID, Face ID or the device passcode — see Biometric protection.

Keys are generally stronger and are required by many hosting providers. Passwords remain useful for devices that don’t support keys, and as a fallback. A profile always records which method it uses, so day-to-day connecting is one tap either way.
